Explore the major attractions of Kansai and Hiroshima with the JR Pass

Hiroshima Castle

Hiroshima Castle is one of Japan’s 100 most famous castles and a National Treasure. It was built entirely of wood but was unfortunately destroyed during the Second World War. The castle grounds are home to the Gokoku Shrine and a charming, traditional castle keep. It now serves as a historical museum showcasing samurai culture, hosting numerous exhibitions each year. Visitors can try on the costumes of the castle’s samurai lords and princesses free of charge.

Himeji Castle

Himeji Castle is Japan’s most iconic and best-preserved castle; it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, together with Kumamoto Castle and Matsumoto Castle, is counted among Japan’s three great castles. It is known as the ‘White Heron Castle’ due to its pure white walls.

You must reserve a seat before boarding. There are two ways to do this:
1) Go to the station ticket office, show your JR Pass to the staff, and collect your JR reserved-seat ticket
2) Use the reserved-seat ticket machines at any JR station to make a reservation and collect your ticket, avoiding the need to queue at the ticket office.
