Availble Area/ Train Services

Marugame Castle

It is one of the 12 remaining castle keep towers in Japan and one of the country’s 100 most famous castles. However, the most striking feature is its towering, tiered stone walls; these are the tallest in Japan and are even more impressive than the castle keep itself, whilst in spring they are adorned with cherry blossoms.

You can also experience a variety of uniquely designed trains found only in Shikoku, such as the ‘Anpanman Train’, ‘Iyo-nada Monogatari’, ‘Shiman Torocco’ and ‘Railway Hobby Train’.

You must reserve a seat before boarding. There are two ways to do this:
1) Go to the station ticket office, show your JR Pass to the staff, and collect your JR reserved-seat ticket
2) Use the reserved-seat ticket machines at any JR station to make a reservation and collect your ticket, avoiding the need to queue at the ticket office.

Terms & Conditions

  • JR tickets operate under a registration system, with a very complicated booking process. Please ensure you provide all necessary information when placing your order. Please be aware that should any delays in ticket issuance occur due to incomplete information, or should any details need to be amended, passengers will be held responsible and required to pay a handling fee.
  • Adults or holders of a rail pass may travel with up to two infants (aged 1–5) free of charge. A child’s rail pass must be purchased for the third child onwards. Infants under one year of age may travel free of charge.
  • A child’s rail pass must be purchased for each infant in the following circumstances:

① Where an infant is travelling alone in a reserved seat in a standard carriage (Standard Class Reserved Seat)

② When the child is travelling alone.

  • Luggage regulations for carriages: Luggage must not exceed a combined total of 250 cm in height, width and length (up to 200 cm in length), and passengers may carry up to two items weighing a total of 30 kg (umbrellas, walking sticks, hand luggage and rucksacks are not included in this limit).
  • Bookings are only available for dates within three months from today.
  • Please note that ticket collection points in Japan can only issue tickets valid for use within one month.
  • The validity period for redemption is three months from the ‘DATE OF ISSUE’ printed on the ticket. At the time of redemption, you must specify the intended date of use (which must be within 30 days of the redemption date). Once use begins, the ticket is valid for 3, 4, 5 or 7 consecutive days and cannot be used in separate segments.
  • Please ensure you carry your passport with you at all times during your journey. Station staff may ask to see your passport when entering or exiting stations; please cooperate with their requests.

  • Reserved Seats with the Pass:
    (1) You cannot use reserved seats with this pass alone. If you wish to use reserved seats on limited express or local trains operated by Shikoku Railway or Tosa Kuroshio Railway, you may purchase a dedicated reserved seat ticket booklet (set of 4). Each ticket in the booklet allows you to use a reserved seat once. Reservation tickets can be purchased at all Pass exchange points (excluding the Information Centre in Kotohira Town). Seat reservations can be made at the Green Window counters at JR Shikoku stations within Shikoku, at JR Shikoku Travel Centres, and at Nakamura, Sukumo and Aki stations on the Tosa Kuroshio Railway.
    (2) In addition to the above, purchasing a reserved seat ticket allows travel in reserved seats in standard carriages on ordinary trains, whilst purchasing a Green Carriage ticket for ordinary trains allows travel in Green Carriages. Furthermore, purchasing a reserved seat limited express ticket allows travel in reserved seats in standard carriages on limited express trains, whilst purchasing a limited express ticket and a Green Carriage ticket allows travel in Green Carriages.
    (3) Under no circumstances may the Pass be used to travel on the Sunrise Seto. Full fare and charges apply when travelling on the Sunrise Seto.
  • Please refer to the official website for the ticket’s area of validity.
  • Tickets must be exchanged at designated counters in Japan; please refer to the official website for exchange locations.
  • Prices are calculated based on the lowest available airfares, hotel rates and surcharges on the day of travel. Actual costs may vary due to exchange rates and availability; no prior notice will be given should costs change for the aforementioned reasons.
  • Once a travel package has been confirmed, no changes to the itinerary will be permitted, and no refunds will be issued for any payments already made.
